Gateway to the Northwest
“Crows' Crossing”
With view of Pacific Northwest and the foothills of Mt. St. Helens
Country living on the edge of the small river town of Castle Rock, Washington (population 2,300). Between Seattle and Portland, Oregon. Gateway to the Northwest. Best Chinook and Steel Head Salmon in the country.
This is an historical country house, sold only 3 times in 100 years, recently remodeled and decorated, with a spectacular panoramic view of the Northwest.
This is country living for the laid back individual. There is an excellent Pizza Parlor, Subway, a Mexican Restaurant, the 49er Restaurant, Rose’s, as well as Hattie’s and a Chinese Restaurant in town, with a couple of coffee shops, one with a rather good bakery. There is a grocery store, 2 banks, drug store, small library, quilt shop, framing shop with small gifts and several antique shops, post office, 20 churches, small museum with local memorabilia as Castle Rock was quite a lumber and cedar shake town in its beginning years. The road below the country house was the old I-99 road which took you to Seattle years ago. President Grant traveled this road in a stage coach back in the mid 1800’s and stayed at a house out on Delemeter Road, not far from here. This home is an original land grant issued by President Lincoln before Washington was a state.
Mt. St. Helens is nearby, 25 miles as the crow flies, day trips to Portland (60 miles), and Seattle (110 miles) Astoria, Or. and Long Beach, Wa. (60 miles). Longview (10 miles), (population 36,000), has shopping but no Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or Bloomingdales. There is Penney’s, Sears, Macy’s and other smaller national brand name stores like Hollister.
Castle Rock is a very small cozy little town along the banks of the Cowlitz River and the Lewis & Clark Trail, which runs into the mighty Columbia River. A train runs by it loaded with logs as this is the heart of the Pacific Northwest. You can hear it at times, but you cannot see it as this refurbished 100 year old home known as “Crows' Crossing” is situated on a hillside above the train route. You can catch the Amtrak train in Kelso which is 8 Miles away.
Again, for the laid back, and more relaxed kind of vacation person.
Portland, however, does offer fine shopping and restaurants you might prefer-not more than an hour’s drive.
We hope that you will be pleasantly surprised and comfortable with the accommodations of our country house called “Crows' Crossing”.
